ELECTRICAL AND INSTRUMENTATION ENGINEER
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Perform electrical engineering and design assignments associated with production, maintenance, process, capital projects, R&D, and power distribution involving the application of established electrical technology and principles, including performing all electrical calculations, and often requiring coordination with other engineering design, and cross-functional competencies to provide economical and expedient task implementation.
The assignment will include participation in all electrical functions associated with projects including assistance with front end loading, production design, electrical construction management, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities. Provides technical guidance to designers and less experienced engineers and is consulted extensively by the associates and others with a high degree of reliance placed on scientific interpretations and advice. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset including but not limited to forecasting & budget.
Responsibilities
- Functions as a project lead for a small project or an area lead for larger projects.
- Scope definition from receipt of basic data to Issue for Design process deliverables
- Interface with the clients’ cross functional teams to define all operating requirements.
- Responsible for study, design, specification, and services related to electrical systems including power generation, power systems performance and control, cabling and wiring, lighting, motor control centers, communication systems, cathodic protection, grounding, lightning protection, heat tracing, etc.
- Responsibility for assessing the quality, robustness, and capability of newly designed and installed Capital Projects.
- Industrial electrical power distribution ranging from high voltage (greater than 35kV), medium voltage (1kV through 35kV) through low voltage (120V through 1kV)
- Electrical power distribution equipment such as generators, substations, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, distribution panels
- Electrical utilization equipment such as motors (AC and DC), controllers, electrical process equipment
- Electrical drawing knowledge (reading and generation via Microstation V8):
- Single Line Diagrams
- Three Line Diagrams
- Schematic Diagrams
- Wiring Diagrams
- Physical Drawings
- Involved in discussions around the control of the process. Frequently pulls in additional technical resources for making decisions about the project viability and resolve any safety concerns or hazards.
- Provides engineering, Checkout and Qualification for the Capital Project process control systems, such as distributive control systems and components, instrumentation technology, and programmable logic controllers.
- Overall responsibility for design, specification, selection, and services relating to instrumentation and control systems including basic process control systems, safety systems, control panels, analyzer systems, field instrumentation, valves, etc.
- May self-perform or lead other engineers to complete project scope and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers. On some occasions, will also plan, schedule, and conduct work requiring independent judgment and adaptation of engineering techniques.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Engineering and design of capital projects - power distribution, instrumentation
